PS Vita Cards And Memory Sticks

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

The PlayStation Vita uses two new flash memory formats to store games and data. The PS Vita Card is used to hold the majority of a game’s data. This is what comes in the packages you would buy from a store. The PS Vita Memory Stick is a small flash memory card that can be used to add storage capabilities to the PS Vita. Some games need a PS Vita Memory Stick to properly function and this makes the PS Vita Memory Stick an essential part of the PS Vita accessory collection.

PS Vita Cards

PS Vita Cards were originally called NVG Cards. Prior to the handheld’s release, the name of the cards were changed to match the name of the device. While all PS Vita games will be available for digital download from the PS Vita Store, you can also buy them at retailers on PS Vita Cards. This allows users with limited bandwidth or those that prefer a physical copy of their games to enjoy the PS Vita without worry.

This new flash memory format holds all the game data. Many PS Vita Cards also include free memory space for save game files. This allows you to pick up your game where you left off if you happen to use your game cartridge in another PS Vita. Most new game releases are priced between $29 and $49. Digital versions of the games run roughly the same price.

If you want to download apps or games from the PS Vita Store, listen to music, play video files or save pictures taken with the PS Vita’s front or rear cameras, you will need a PS Vita Memory Stick. These flash memory sticks are available in capacities ranging from four gigabytes to 32 gigabytes. The PS Vita includes one available slot for reading PS Vita Memory Sticks. While carrying multiple memory sticks will allow you to expand your storage capabilities, only one card can be used with the PS Vita at any given time.
